AMA Superbike is the United States’ premier superbike racing series.  It showcases the world’s best talent on the world finest racing bikes.  The AMA has been running the Superbike Championship since 1976, mainly as a venue for motorcycle manufacturers and racers to showcase the latest equipment and accessories as well as prove their mettle on the track.  Matthew Mladin is the championship’s most successful motorcycle racer, with six championship titles and several records under his belt.

Five of the world’s top manufacturers are featured in the competition.  These manufacturers are Suzuki, Honda, Ducati, Buell, and Yamaha.  Each manufacturer provides a top-notch product, but the models that will be raced in the 2009 AMA Superbike will have some new and exciting features.

Suzuki is fielding one of the top racers in AMA Superbike, Matthew Mladin.  Earlier this month, team Suzuki took their 50th consecutive AMA Superbike win.   The team uses the Suzuki Rockstar GSX-R1000, which has been ridden by successful riders like Ben Spies and Matthew Mladin.  The 4 cylinder four stroke engine cranks out a huge amount of power while its compact design and short wheelbase give it maximum control in motorcycle races where high RPMs are a given.

Team Buell is planning on using their 1125R motorcycle.  Buell has designed the 1125R to have excellent, intuitive handling and predictable power.  The DOHC V-Twin engine is compact and light, further reducing the overall weight of the 1125R.  Buell’s 1125R kicks out 146 horsepower in a very light frame, which will help drive their riders to AMA Superbike success.

Ducati has an impressive stable of four bikes for AMA Superbike.  They include the light and maneuverable Ducati 848, the powerful 1198, and the 1098 R.  All of these bikes implement the newest in Ducati motorcycle technology, and are an intimidating force to be reckoned with on the race track.

Yamaha is also bringing out some new accessories and technology for the 2009 AMA Superbike racing calendar.  Team Yamaha will ride the YZ450F motorcycle.  Its frame has been altered to enhance the stability of the bike’s base and make it road-ready with minimum tweaking.

All of these developments hold promise for a very exciting AMA Superbike motorcycle racing season.  The burning question is how long Matthew Mladin and Team Suzuki can stay on top of the racing circuit – with 50 consecutive wins, it’s hard to see an end in sight.
