The British Supersport Cup is run in conjunction and within the Fuchs-Silkolene British Supersport Championship and both are part of the support package surrounding the British Superbike Championship. The 2010 season of the Supersport Cup was where Britain’s Fastest Female, Jenny Tinmouth, plied her trade on the UK’s fastest motorcycle racing circuits. At the final meet of the season held at Oulton Park, Tinmouth finished in 20th position overall and fifth in her Cup series. With the overall points all added up and the final placements set, Tinmouth finished up the season in third position overall – a great end to a challenging season.
The unfortunate part of the weekend has more to do with what Tinmouth lost at Oulton Park back during 8 – 10 October 2010. When she first set foot on the circuit she had the points lead in the Supersport Cup and had a real chance to win the Championship. Unfortunately for her team, there were problems in practice, including a nasty low-side during an abbreviated practice session which needed serious repair. By the time of the qualifying practice, though, Tinmouth was very quick and secured a nice position on the grid ahead of her main rivals for the title. Things looked promising.
The race did not go as positively as qualifying; the length of the event had also been reduced due to inclement conditions earlier in the day which. Tinmouth attempted to remain calm in order to put in a solid performance but clutch issues hampered her ability to keep up with eventual Championship winner Pat McDougall.
Overall, the 2010 season was a great one for the young Tinmouth. She climbed on four podiums and took one victory in the BSB Supersport Cup, took the very first TTXGP UK Championship and set a record-breaking Isle of Man TT average speed of 119.945 mph for women on the Mountain. Though it might have been in doubt once or twice, Jenny Tinmouth remains as the Fastest Woman in the UK. Who else is anxious for the 2011 British Superbike Championship to begin?
