The 2011 Dakar rally will limit motorcycles to an engine size of 450 cc's. Thomas Berglund, who finished the 2010 Dakar in 12th place, will be bringing two FE 450 Husaberg bikes to this years Dakar rally in South America. "Since the motorcycle category is now limited to 450cc the new durable and lightweight Husaberg bikes are a great choice for a real competetive bike." Berglund said.
This years Dakar rally will bring riders through the white dune of Fiabala and the Atacama Desert, two places that have helped to continue the legendary lore of the Dakar. But the Dakar won't follow the same path as last years event. Five new Argentinian provinces have been added to this years route. Riders will even venture into the northern tip of Chile.
The 450 cc limitation isn't the only change in the Darkar rules this year. GPS systems will also be limited to way point markers only, which will force riders to master the road-book.
For more than 30 years, riders have explored the African content, and now South America during the Dakar rally. The new limitations on bike, and restrictions on GPS units, will be sure to make this years Dakar a memorable one.
