At the end of last year, Harley-Davidson announced that their Buell line of motorcycles would be discontinued. Just a few months later, Erik Buell, the former head of Buell motorcycles, and his new venture, Erik Buell Racing, has sold its first two bikes.
Erik Buell Racing, which is backed by Harley to sell racing bikes, has sold two 1190RR-B motorcycles to the European group, the Pegasusraceteam.com team. The Pegasusraceteam.com currently uses Buell 1125Rs and EBs, and will now use the new 1190RR-B in the European Sound of Thunder Series. Harald Kitsch, the defending Sound of Thunder champion, will ride one of the new Buell Racing bikes.
“Kitsch is a very talented rider with World Endurance Championship and German IDM experience,” said Pegasusraceteam manager Jens Kruper. “He is really looking forward to racing the new bike.”
The Sound of Thunder series will begin in April, finishing in September.
“We have had great success with the 1125R and XB12R in the last few years,” said Thomas Wanner, Pegusraceteam member. “Now we will expand our program by using the new 1190RR-B.”
Buell is excited about the Pegasusraceteam using their new 1190RR-B, but they aren’t stopping there. Buell is in the process of designing motorcycles for both Daytona SportBike and American SuperBike specs, to be used in the 2010 AMA Pro Road Racing season.
