Ryan Villopoto claimed the opening round of the 2012 Supercross season. Ryan Dungey took the round two victory. And now a a third rider has found his way to the top of the box this season. Chad Reed took his first victory of 2012 last night with a win at Dodger Stadium.
The race started with Dungey grabbing the holeshot and fighting with Ryan Villopoto for the lead, but the race was red flagged after a scary incident involving Trey Canard and Ryan Morais.
Morais landed on top of Dungey while coming down from a jump. Here's a video of the scary incident.
Initial reports say that Canard will have to undergo surgery after fracturing his back. An official report has not been made yet.
On the restart, Jake Weimer took the holeshot but was quickly persued by Reed and James Stewart. Reed was able to overtake on the 6th lap and held onto the lead until he crossed the checkered flag.
"I have been trying to figure out what I have been doing wrong this year. I switched to a tire that I used last year and it worked. I am going to keep trying to get better each week. I will take the good with the bad and keep moving forward."
Dungey took second ahead of James Stewart, who claimed his first podium of the year.
