Many motorcyclists have stepped up in recent weeks to raise money for disaster relief in Japan. Now Ryan Dungey and Rockstar Makita Suzuki team are doing their part. Dungey and Rockstar Makita Suzuki will be putting a special set of Fox race gear, the gear that Dungey wore at the Jacksonville Supercross event, up for auction to raise money for the tsunami and earthquake victims in Japan.
"The exclusive red and white clothing is emblazoned with the Japanese symbol, pronounced 'Kiboh,' which translates into English as 'Hope.' The shirt is also red and white to symbolise the country's Rising Sun flag," said Rockstar Makita Suzuki in a press release. "As a mark of respect and support, all riders at the March 19th event sported the Japanese flag."
The Motorcycle Federation of Japan will bring Dungey's gear to the Red Cross in Japan. The gear will then be auctioned off at a special charity auction at the All Japan Motocross Championship at Hiroshima in May.
Dungey just took his first win of the 2011 Supercross season, and is preparing to make a run for the championship. But amidst the competition, Dungey is well aware of how big of an impact Japan has on the motorcycle industry.
"We're all very appreciative of how Japan has supported us in this industry and racing," Dungey said. "I feel like it's our job to do anything that we can do to help them in this time of need and help return the favour. It's going to take a lot for them to rebuild and get back to normal. I just want them to know that we're here for them and they are in our thoughts and prayers."
