2011 Supercross Preview: Dallas

ama_supercrossWith just 5 rounds left in the 2011 Supercross season, things are starting to tighten up at the top. The top three riders are all within 8 points of each other as we head to Dallas for the 13th round of the Supercross season.

Ryan Villopoto has led the way for the majority of the 2011 season, but last week in Toronto he was dethroned by Chad Reed. Reed now leads the series by three points, but there are four other riders who could take the lead this weekend.

Ryan Dungey was able to close the gap to the points leader to just 8 points after taking his first victory of the 2011 season in Toronto. Yep, it took the 2010 Supercross champion 12 rounds to claim his first victory, but there is plenty of time for Dungey to add a few more victories to his name as he seeks to defend his title.

If anybody could use a win this weekend though, it's James Stewart. Stewart was recently arrested for impersonating an officer in Florida, but despite his legal troubles, Stewart will be allowed to race this weekend. Stewart has the Supercross world questioning his character at the moment, but one thing to make his critics forget about his off-track behavior is by giving them a race win this weekend.

Trey Canard is the final rider within striking distance of the points leader. Canard has captured two victories during his rookie campaign, and is only 22 points from the top of the leader board.

2011 Supercross Standings
