Ryan Villopoto captured his fifth victory of the 2011 AMA Supercross season this weekend, extending his points lead to 26 ahead of James Stewart.
Chad Reed took the hole shot out of the gate, but Villopoto quickly took the lead before the end of lap 1. In fact, Villopoto led each of the 20 laps at Lucas Oil Stadium in Indianapolis, beating Stewart and Reed to the finish line.
"The track was really tough tonight," said Villopoto. "The ruts played a big factor throughout the 20 lap main. You really had to be smart out there. The whole team worked together really well tonight, and I couldn't do it without them."
Stewart battled with Reed behind Villopoto for the second place spot on the podium, limiting the damage done by Villopoto's win. Stewart hasn't won since the fifth round at Anaheim, but with 7 rounds remaining in the 2011 Supercross season, there is plenty of time for Stewart to regain the lead.
"I had a rough weekend last week and wasn't able to ride the way I wanted to," said Stewart. "I let my team down today. It's not over. I'm so motivated right now and I have a bunch of guys behind me."
