Villopoto Back on Top in Atlanta Hot

Ryan_Villopoto_at_Georgia_DomeRyan Villopoto looked destined for third place during last night's Supercross event in Atlanta, but a late race crash involving James Stewart and Chad Reed opened the door for Villopoto to take his third victory of the season.

"It's definitely a gift, and I'll take it," said Villopoto. "The track was tough tonight...but getting a win here is awesome, we add some points to the list and we'll see what we can do in Daytona."

Reed and Dungey were battling at the front when they collided with just a lap to go. Both riders were able to remount and score some points, but not until Villopoto and Dungey passed them up.

Dungey took his 6th podium of the season, but he is still seeking his first victory. Reed was able to recover from his accident to finish off the podium in third, while Stewart was next in line with a fourth place finish.

Villopoto now leads the 2011 Supercross season by 10 points. Stewart remains in second place, and Reed is another 11 points back. Canard and Dungey have just one point between them, but are 25 points behind the leaders.
