Decked out in all pink, James Stewart claimed the most convincing win of the 2011 supercross season last week in Anaheim. Now JS7 heads into Texas with the goal of extending his win streak to three.
Stewart is currently 5 points ahead of Ryan Villopoto, who won the Texas event last year. It's been Stewart or Villopoto at the top of every event this year, and the two are beginning to separate themselves from the rest of the pack.
If anyone needs a win in Texas, it's defending champion Ryan Dungey. Dungey has been the third place rider for the bulk of the 2011 season, but dropped down to fifth after last week's event in Anaheim after a DNF.
"Obviously the main event didn't go our way tonight," Dungey said. “I don't know the last time we've had a DNF, which is pretty amazing in itself. This is a tough one and I'll take the weekend to blow off some steam for sure because we aren't going to quit and we aren't going to let this keep us down."
Dungey is now 38 points behind the leader, and he will need a win in Texas to boost his points total, as well as his morale.
Chad Reed took over the third place position as Dungey dropped in the standings. The Supercross veteran has been consistent during the 2011 Supercross season, and has been a contender at every race so far.
Supercross rookie Trey Canard has also seen consistent results. Canard has finished in the top five at every race but one so far, and has already scored his first podium finish in the premier class.
