Last week, Ryan Dungey rode to a fourth place finish at Quest Field in front of 50,000 fans to clinch the AMA Supercross title. This week, Jake Weimer could clinch the title for the Supercross Lite division with a 15th place finish or better. Jake Weimer scored 6 podiums this season, four of which were race wins, to give him a 155 point total going into this weekends race in Salt Lake City. Weimer is currently 19 points ahead of his closest competitor, Wil Hahn, who has 136 points.
"I'm going to try and win next week at Salt Lake, but I'm also going to be smart," said Weimer. "My job right now is to win the title. When the gate drops, if I get the holeshot I'm going to go for the win, but if not, I'm not going to push and ride over my head."
If Weimer managers 15th place or better, he will be able to claim his first ever professional championship.
