AMA Supercross: Jacksonville Preview Hot

SX rider Ryan Dungey at Cowboys StadiumTwenty-four points separate the 2010 Monster Energy AMA Supercross Championship leader Ryan Dungey from Ryan Villopoto going into round 12 at Jacksonville Municipal Stadium in Florida.

During round 11 at Cowboys Stadium last weekend, the Rockstar Makita Suzuki rider Dungey took his fourth win of the season, putting an end to Villopoto’s two-race winning streak. The Monster Energy Kawasaki rider went on to finish fourth, behind Honda Red Bull Racing riders Trey Canard and Davi Millsaps.

With six races remaining, the championship could still be won by a handful of riders, including San Manuel Yamaha rider Josh Hill, who sits in third with 192 points behind Villopoto (215) and Dungey (239).

Villopoto’s teammate, Chad Reed, will not race at Jacksonville, but is expected to return during round 12 in Houston. His rival, San Manuel Yamaha rider James Stewart, is still out due to injuries, and no official reports about his return have been released.

During last year’s debut Jacksonville race, Stewart won, putting him just five points behind the then leader Reed. Stewart, who eventually won the championship, took the lead after chasing Reed for 13 laps. Reed finished second.

AMA Supercross will be broadcast at noon (EST) on Sunday, March 28, on CBS Sports. The AMA Supercross Lites race will be at 6 p.m. (EST) Sunday on SPEED TV.
