The 2010 Monster Energy AMA Supercross series heads to The Peach State this weekend. Going into Round 8 at Atlanta’s Georgia Dome, the two Ryans are tied on top of the championship with 145 points each.
Monster Energy Kawasaki rider Ryan Villopoto’s win last week at Indy created a tie between him and Rockstar Makita Suzuki rider Ryan Dungey, who finished second last week.
San Manuel Yamaha rider Josh Hill is only 10 points behind the leaders due to four consecutive second-place finishes before Indy; last week Hill didn’t have a good start and finished the race in ninth place.
In the Eastern Regional AMA Supercross Lites class, Christophe Pourcel took the win. The Monster Energy/Pro Circuit Kawasaki rider is the defending Eastern Lites champion, and is trailed by Rockstar Makita Suzuki rider Austin Stroupe.
Rivals Chad Reed and James Stewart are reportedly out again due to hand injuries. Both riders were involved in the “crash heard ‘round to world” during round 2 in Phoenix.
During last year’s race, Stewart took his seventh consecutive win, taking the points lead from Reed. The first time Supercross meet at the Georgia Dome was March 5, 1977, when Bob Hannah won on a Yamaha.
Live coverage of the Supercross action will be broadcast at 7:30 p.m. (EST) Saturday on SPEED.
