During the last West Coast meeting of the 2010 Monster Energy Supercross season, Ryan Villopoto took his second win, giving Poulsbo, Wash., rider a comfortable third-place in the championship point race.
Before 34,227 fans at Angel Stadium in Anaheim, Calif., the Monster Energy Kawasaki rider grabbed the SPIKE Holeshot award, and led all 20 laps, building a six-second lead towards the end.
“This is a good spot to be in as we head to Indianapolis next week,” said Villopoto. “I am looking forward to next weekend’s race, and I have put myself in a good position.”
Saturday's race was also the first-ever PINK Supercross race that helped fund the Susan G. Komen 3-Day for the Cure 60-mile walk. Feld Motor Sports, which provides the venues for AMA Supercross, and Angels Baseball teamed up at Anaheim III in support of finding a cure for breast cancer.
Back to the action, San Manuel Yamaha rider Josh Hill took his fourth consecutive second-place finish at Anaheim III, tying him for the lead in points with Rockstar Makita Suzuki rider Ryan Dungey, who finished fourth Saturday night. Hill, of Yoncalla, Ore., and Dungey, of Belle Plaine, Minn., both have 123 points.
Villopoto’s win at the third and final SX race of the season in Anaheim gives him 120 points, just three points behind the leaders.
After leading the racers through turn one, Hill followed with round 5 San Diego SX winner, Honda Red Bull Racing rider Davi Millsaps of Tallahassee, Fla., in third. GEICO Powersports rider Kevin Windham of Centerville, Miss., started in fourth and by the end of lap 1, Dungey was in fifth.
On lap 7, Windham passed Millsaps for third with Dungey close behind. Dungey then passed Millsaps, but lost traction, moving back to fifth place. But Dungey eventually charged back, taking fourth place at the end of the race, with fifth going to Millsaps.
Hill’s teammate, defending Supercross Champion James Stewart, and Monster Energy Kawasaki rider Chad Reed both did not race this weekend due to injuries. Stewart, of Haines City, Fla., and Reed, of Tampa, Fla., are both expected to be out for a few more weeks.
Both riders were involved in “the crash heard ‘round the world” during round 2 in Phoenix.

Supercross Lites West
For the second time this season, GEICO Powersports Honda rider Trey Canard of Shawnee, Okla., took his second AMA Supercross Lites win.
The SPIKE Holeshot Award went to Troy Lee Designs/ Lucas Oil Honda rider Wil Hahn of Decatur, Texas, with Canard following and points leader Jake Weimer in third. By the end of the first lap, Canard passed Hahn to take the lead, and remained first to the finish. Monster Energy/Pro Circuit Kawasaki rider Weimer or Rupert, Idaho, also passed Hahn, but crashed. Weimer got back up, re-starting in 20th position. But by the end of the race, he was in eight place, and remains the points leader.
The AMA Supercross season continues next week in Indianapolis.
