Although it was obvious, four-time AMA Champion Chad Reed officially finalized his contract with factory Kawasaki to compete in AMA Supercross and AMA Motocross championships for 2010.
Reed will be partnered with Ryan Villopoto, both riders racing the Kawasaki KX450F. “The Kawasaki KX450F is a great bike,” Reed said “I have already had a chance to ride and race it. I’m really impressed.”
Reed returns to the green machine after racing for the Kawasaki European Factory Team in 2001, when he won the Dutch Grand Prix.
According to a Kawasaki press release, in the eight years since, the 27-year-old rider has amassed an impressive resume including an AMA Supercross Lites East Coast crown (2002), two AMA Supercross titles (2004, '08), and most recently the 2009 AMA Motocross championship. During that time he has won 38 times in AMA Supercross competition, five overall AMA National Motocross events, and he has earned an impressive 105 AMA Supercross podium finishes.
“Chad is going to bring a lot to our team,” said Monster Energy Kawasaki Team Manager Mike Fisher. “He has proven to be the most consistent rider this decade and his record speaks for itself. We have high expectations for both Chad and Ryan and I know they are going to do their best to meet them.”
Reed is currently leading the Monster Energy Super X, an Australian Supercross Series championship.
