When you have motorcycle icons Ricky Carmichael and Jeremy McGrath design a course, you're bound to get something pretty cool. Monster Energy has just released a few details, and a cool animation video of the new Monster Energy Cup track in Las Vegas.
Carmichael and McGrath worked to create a motocross / supercross hybrid track for the quarter million dollar event at Sam Boyd's Silver Bowl in Las Vegas, Nevada.
"What I tried to do was make it as 'raceable' as possible," McGrath said. "If you get too many twists and turns and too many 90 degree corners and little chicanes and all that stuff you can't really race. It would just be one line."
ESPN reports that McGrath and Carmichael worked on their designs separately so that the track has two distinct feels.
"I thought the outside stadium part should be high speed with a big jump like LaRocco's Leap," Carmichael said. "I thought it would be cool to have a focal point, a big jump that was good for television and something exciting for the fans."
Here's a video of the new track.
The Monster Energy Cup will be held on October 15th in Las Vegas. The Monster Energy Cup isn't a Supercross or Motocross event. It's a one-off event that will see riders from all disciplines competing to win the $250,000 purse.
"Our goal with creating the Monster Energy Cup is really not to have an 18th Supercross; this is a unique mega-event that was created with Feld Motorsports and our title sponsor, Monster Energy, to create an environment that is different from a standard Supercross," says Feld Motorsports' Todd Jendro. "This event will have the best riders in the world. We're reaching out to a lot of international riders as well to attend. We're working with two of the sport's icons - Ricky Carmichael and Jeremy McGrath - to help develop this unique track in a stadium environment that will have a tremendous motocross-style influence to it, and also have some Supercross obstacles as well."
