2011 Motocross Season Concludes This Weekend

dungeyAfter 11 rounds of competition the 2011 Motocross season is coming to an end. The MX season finale will be held this weekend at the Pala Raceway in San Diego.

Ryan Villopoto, who won the 2011 Supercross title, is currently on his to his second title of the year. After an outstanding performance at Steel City, where RV swept both motos to take his third overall victory of the year, the Kawasaki rider now sits 14 points ahead of Ryan Dungey.

Yep, Dungey is in a must win situation right now. Luckily, it's something the young Suzuki rider can easily handle. Dungey won both motos at the Pala Raceway in 2010 during his championship season, and could repeat the feat this weekend.

If Dungey does come out on top in both motos, Villopoto will need to secure at least a fourth place finish in both motos to secure his first 450 class championship.

Chad Reed, who was one of the most dominant riders this season, had had a string of bad results and is no longer a contender for the championship.

"The goal is always to put yourself in race winning contention," Reed said. "But we had that taken away at Southwick. It was a real disappointing weekend, and it was hard to swallow. We were in control in the first half of the season, but the second half was just average at best."

The 2011 Motocross Championship round will be broadcast live on SpeedTV starting at 4 p.m. EST.
