For at least another year, Tony Cairoli will be wearing the number one plate. The Red Bull Teka KTM rider added another championship notch to his belt with a fantastic performance in Gaildorf, Germany.
Cairoli sealed up the championship after the first Moto in Germany. It is his fifth MX title and his second consecutive title with the KTM team. Cairoli won the MX2 title in 2005 and 2007, and won the MX1 title in 2009, 2010, and 2011.
Cairoli was the favorite heading into the season but a crash during the first GP put his title hopes in doubt. Cairoli injured his right knee and only managed a ninth place during the opening round. That was his lowest scoring round of the season, however. After the opening round Cairoli put together five wins and 11 podiums.
There are still a few more rounds in the MX1 series, but Tony Cairoli can now ride easy.
