Fiolek Takes A Step Toward the WMX Championships With Southwick Win

Fiolek_SouthwickAshley Fiolek is just two races away from claiming the 2011 AMA Women's Motocross championship. Fiolek extended her lead to 30 points over Jessica Patterson by taking the overall win last weekend at Southwick.

Hurricane Irene created a muddy Southwick circuit, but Fiolek was able to take a 1-2 finish to take her third overall victory of the season.

"Those were some of the most challenging conditions I've ever raced in," Fiolek said. "My hat's off to Jessica [Patterson]... She rode really well today. She was unable to score any points in the first moto, and I hate to see the championship possibly come down to that, but I'm also really happy to be leaving here with a larger points lead. We still have four more motos to go, though, so anything can happen."

Fiolek has already won two WMX championships and a 2009 ESPN X-Games gold medal.
