Christophe Pourcel and Antonio Cairoli both took 45-points away from the Matterley Basin round this weekend during the 13th round of the FIM Motocross World Championship.
In the first race, Steven Frossard led the way out of the gate, but he was quickly followed by Pourcel. Pourcel would keep the pressure on the race leader until Frossard made a small mistake toward the end of the race.
"In the first race I had a nice battle with Steven (Frossard)," Pourcel said. "I was trying to make a pass in several places but it wasn't easy but in the end Steven made a mistake and it was great to win that race."
Pourcel looked like he was on his way to his second win of the weekend in race two, but the Kawasaki rider had to pull out of the race after he damaged his bike crashing off a jump. But Pourcel would get a chance to re-enter the race when it was red-flagged.
"I crashed and the bike was damaged, so I decided to stop and I was angry with myself for my mistake," Pourcel said. "I was on the way back to my car ready to leave the track when the team called me to come for another start; it was all a bit of a rush but we made it. I crashed a few times this weekend, but it was fun to race with Cairoli and Frossard, we had a really good speed and both were clean when we made the passes."
Pourcel was able to find his way to another podium finish at the end of race two, but it was season leader Antonio Cairoli who would take the win ahead of Frossard, who ended the weekend with two second place finishes.
Cairoli now leads the series with 554 points, 72 more than Frossard.
