While competing today at Balen for the Belgian Championship, Clement Desalle crashed and fractured a bone in his left sholder. Desalle will now have to sit out for the final three rounds of the 2011 MX1 season.
Desalle, who won the Czech GP last week, was just 48 points behind leader Antonio Cairoli. The stage was set for a fantastic battle between Cairoli and Desalle as the MX1 series heads into the final three rounds, but it now looks like Cairoli will be able to cruise easily to the championship.
"It is quite unbelievable some of the luck Clement has had this season but sadly we know too-well that this is part of the sport," said team owner Sylvain Geboers. "Clement had made a great start and the accident was no fault of his own. It seems that his season is over and he has to make a decision about getting both shoulders fixed and healed so he can be 100% ready to make a push for 2012."
According to a Suzuki press release, Desalle will have to undergo surgery before he can race again.
