The 11th GP of the season will kick off this weekend on the sandy track in Lommel, Belgium. Antonio Cairoli currently leads the way, but Clement Desalle could close the gap this weekend as he races in front of his home crowd.
But DeSalle may not have that big of a home track advantage this weekend. Cairoli uses the Limburg circuit as his training base during the offseason. Cairoli also has the confidence of last year's win at Belgium in his corner, as well as a victory on the sandy circuit of Valkenswaard earlier this year. Cairoli seems to have everything working in his favor this weekend.
DeSalle will be looking for a return to victory this weekend, but the Rockstar Energy Suzuki rider knows that it will be tough. DeSalle has been fighting through injuries for the last several rounds, and still is not at 100%. The FIM MX1 series is coming off of a week break, so hopefully DeSalle had enough time to rest.
Steven Frossard hasn't been the best in the sand, but he showed strong results at the sand race in Valkenswaard. Frossard may not be the favorite this weekend, but it wouldn't be surprising to see him fighting for the podium.
"I know that if I get comfortable on the sand then I can make a good result when it comes to Lommel," Frossard said.
Max Nagl took to the podium in 2010 behind Cairoli, and should be another podium contender this weekend.
