Mike Metzger, the Godfather of Freestyle MX, In Critical Condition After Crash Hot

mike_metzgerMike Metzger is currently in critical condition at a hospital in California after suffering a heavy crash while riding at his home compound in Menifee. Initial reports say that Metzger broke vertebrae in his neck and back, broke his collarbone, and lacerated his kidney.

Metzger had another big fall earlier this year when he fractured 10 ribs and his scapula while riding in Slovakia. ESPN reports that Metzger was training for his comeback when he crashed. Metzger, known as the Godfather of Freestyle Motocross, was planning to compete in the Moto X Speed and Style events X-Games 17.

Lucas Mirtle, Metzger's agent, said that the freestyle rider was in critical but stable condition and is expected to make a full recovery.

"Everyone please send your prayers out to the Godfather of freestyle and one of my Heroes Mike Metzger," James Stewart said. "Mike I hope you get well soon Boss!"

Sorry to hear about your crash. I am happy to hear you will make a full recovery. I got paralyzed 4 years ago riding breaking my T4 and T5 vertebrate. I would not wish this life upon anyone. It is extremely hard and expensive, a huge mind f%#k. I was looking forward to seeing you compete again and still hope you do. Take it easy. I don't ever want to read that you are in my shoes.

I was paralyzed t5/t6 in 2006...and I certainly hope metzger is ok...but come on mark. You act like life is horrible because your paralyzed, when in fact if you let it be it can be an awesome journey. I have met a lot of amazing people, my fiancée, and been given so many opportunities that I would have never seen before. I wouldn't change a thing about my last day on a bike, greatest race ever. We're sitting down, not dead...turn your attitude around and get ready for the medical advances that may just get us walking again. In the meantime enjoy the front row parking with me!

I have known Mike for 20 years now. I used to ride with Mike after school driving from Huntington Beach, CA. after school got out when he had his Suzuki 80's and he would still fly beyond air time! My prayers are with Ted, Sharon and Mike. Get well soon!
