When Chad Reed crashes, he crashes big. Reed had just taken the lead during the second moto at Spring Creek when he lost control of his bike and launched himself 50 feet into the air off a jump.
Reed laid on the ground for a few moments after the crash, but amazingly, he was able to remount and enter the race. Reed jumped back on the track in dead last, but Reed wouldn't stay in the back for long. The TwoTwo Motorsports rider passed 20 riders to take a 14th place finish and 7 points.
"I hit some bumps and the front wheel just went out from under me," Reed said after the race. "The next thing I knew, I was flying through the air. I'm just happy to still be here. It's all about the championship so I wasn't about to lay down and let these guys gain 25 points. I got back on and rode my best to come back from dead last to 14th."
Reed, who won the first moto, walked away with a 5th place overall finish. But more importantly, Reed maintained the championship lead over Ryan Villopoto and Ryan Dungey.
Here's the video of Chad Reed's crash.
Reed now has a 6 point lead over Villopoto and a 7 point lead over Dungey.
