2011 AMA Motocross Preview: Spring Creek

mx_logoThe 2011 AMA Motocross season crosses the halfway point this weekend as the MX riders head to Millville, Minnesota, for the 7th round at the Spring Creek National. Chad Reed leads the way, but Ryan Dungey and Ryan Villopto aren't far behind.

Reed has a 16-point lead heading to Spring Creek, but if anyone should be confident about this weekend's race it's 2010 MX Champion Ryan Dungey. Dungey will be racing in front of his home crowd in Minnesota, where he has earned three consecutive wins.

Reed will also have to fend off Trey Canard in Minnesota if he wants to add another tally to the win column. Canard was having a fantastic rookie Supercross season, but broke his leg with a few events remaining. Canard has never raced in the outdoor 450 class, but you can expect the Honda rider to be giving it his all this weekend.

"Knowing that I'm only days away from racing again and to be racing my first-ever 450-class Motocross event feels awesome," Canard said. "I love riding the CRF450R and can't wait to race it outdoors."

Canard may not be able to get his bike up to the podium this weekend, but the young Honda rider could mix things up a bit in the second half of the 2011 Motocross season.
