After Josh Lichtle's death during the AMA RedBud National motocross race in Michigan, his family was absolutely devastated. Lichtle suffered exertional heat stroke during the race, and officially died from hyperthermia. Lychtle's family has just launched the Godspeed 811 project, which will educate riders about injury prevention and pre-race hydration.
"We want to share some pro tips with these younger amateur riders with a focus on proactive prevention," said Lichtle's father. "A rider's overall diet and training regimen are as essential to preventing hyperthermia as what they eat, drink, and do on the big day."
The Lichtle family plans to take "Godspeed 811: Proactive Injury Prevention" to major amateur motocross races around the county. The Lichtles will promote rider hydration, nutrition, and general safety. You can donate to the Lichtle foundation here.
The AMA Lucas Oil Motocross Championship says that Lichtle's death is the first hyperthermia related death at an MX event in history.
