Chad Reed to be Appointed A Member of the Order of Australia

chad_reed_profile_picChad Reed is having a pretty good year. The TwoTwo Motorsports rider took second at the end of the 2011 Supercross season, he is currently leading the 2011 Motocross standings, and he just got invited to the Queen’s birthday. Reed will be appointed a Member of the Order of Australia for his outstanding work in the field of motorsports.

Reed, who is only 29, is the second youngest person to ever be made a Member of the Order of Australia. Reed hails from Kurri Kurri in New South Whales, and is one of the most famous motorcycle riders to ever come out of Australia.

“It’s still sinking in and is quite unbelievable,” Reed said. “To be recognized with such an award is an absolute honour and one that I will treasure. To join Peter Brock and Mick Doohan on the list, it’s just incredible.

“I’m an extremely proud Australian, and to me, it can’t get any better than to be honored by our government and my fellow Aussies.”

The Member of the Order of Australia is awarded for service in a particular field of activity.

From the Australian government website:

“The Order of Australia is the pre-eminent way Australians recognize the achievements and service of their fellow citizens.”

The Order of Australia has four levels. Chad Reed was made a Member of the Order, which is the third highest level. Reed was given the award for his “service to motorsports as a professional supercross motorcycle rider at national and international levels, and to the community.”
