This weekend, the 2011 Motocross season kicks off at Hangtown. Ryan Dungey, Ryan Villopoto, and Chad Reed will all be at the starting line, but James Stewart will not. Stewart announced today that he won't be riding at Hangtown.
Stewart said:
"Everyone witnessed the way I struggled during the Supercross series this year and while I'd like to race this weekend, we just aren't ready. I hope fans will understand. The decision has been very hard to make, but we won't race till we're ready."
Stewart took his share of hits this year, including a nasty last race crash that ended his season.
"We didn't end the season like we thought we would," Stewart said. "I have been crashing a lot in the whoops lately and I'm not really sure what is going on. We will keep trying to get better. It's a bummer year but what doesn't kill you makes you stronger."
The crash in Las Vegas wasn't the only time that Stewart went down during the 2011 Supercross season. Stewart hit the dirt in Atlanta, Daytona, San Diego, Houston, Jacksonville, Las Vegas and I heard he tripped last weekend walking over a curb. It was an up and down season for Stewart, and when he went down he hit the ground hard.
Stewart could probably use an extra week or two off before he gets his mind right to challenge for the 2011 MX title.
No word on when Stewart will start racing, but when he does, expect him to challenge for the win.
