In conjunction with the Motocross Action and Dirt Bike ride day the popular and long-running magazines held a Rich Eierstedt memorial gathering at Glen Helen Raceway. Eierstedt made the jump from local pro to Factory Honda rider in the early 1970s.
He proved a stylish and popular rider, and after Honda he raced for Bultaco, Harley-Davidson and Can-Am. Many racers who were fellow competitors were on hand to remember their friend. Among these were his H-D teammate Rex Staten, fellow Honda, H-D and Can-Am star Marty Tripes and multitime women's champ Sue Fish. Fish and Eierstedt had been lifelong friends.
