The winners of the 2011 AMA Supercross and Motocross seasons are far from being decided, but there's a good chance that the victors will be coming from the Rockstar Makita Suzuki team. Not only does Rockstar Makita Suzuki have the 2010 AMA Supercross and Motocross champ, Ryan Dungey, returning in their corner, but they have just signed Brett Metcalfe.
Metcalfe, who finished second behind Dungey in the 2010 AMA Motocross series, has left his Geico Powersports Honda team, and will be joining Suzuki for 2011.
"I'm really excited to be joining the team," Metcalfe said. "There's no doubt that the RM-Z450 is a race-winning machine, and I can't wait to start testing. I think the Rockstar Makita Suzuki team will be a good place for me to really focus on putting together a solid 2011.”
The Suzuki team has two of the sports most dominant riders heading into the 2011 season, but there is one flaw with the team. The absence of Roger DeCoster.
But Suzuki feels like they have found a man big enough, credentially speaking, to fill DeCoster's shoes.
Off-road racing legend Mike Webb will be taking over the reigns of the Suzuki team.
"I'm really excited for this opportunity to help defend the AMA Supercross and Motocross titles that Ryan Dungey so masterfully won this year," Webb said. "I'm thrilled to be working with the team and Yoshimura, as we're all fully committed to keeping that Number One plate on the RM-Z450. I think 2011 is going to be a great season for us, for Suzuki, and for the RM-Z450."
Webb has been Suzuki's team manger for the GNCC bike series since 1992, and has an impressive amount of championships. Webb will also have Ricky Carmichael at his side, who will serve as team adviser.
