The AMA Motocross season will come to a close tomorrow night at the Pala Raceway in San Diego. For Ryan Dungey, the night will be a celebration of an amazing season, as he will officially be awarded the AMA Motocross championship, but the fight for second is far from over.
Andrew Short and Brett Metcalfe will enter the final round of the AMA Motocross with just a few points between them. Metcalfe has been on a bit of a hot streak lately, and will enter Pala with a 5 point advantage. Short will have his work cut out for him if Metcalfe is on his A-game.
And don't expect Dungey to just give away the race win. The rookie took a Moto win at Steel City after he had clinched the title, and he'll be looking to do the same at Pala. Dungey also has the chance to put himself in the record books by claiming the most wins in a rookie Motocross season.
Short and Metcalfe will also get some competition from Kevin Windham. The veteran took the overall win at Steel City, and proved that he still has some gas in the tanks.
In the 250 division, Trey Canard and Christophe Pourcel still have some unfinished business on the Motocross track. Canard is trailing by 7 points, and will need to put in a good weekend at Pala if he wants a chance at the title.
Last weekend, Canard did all he could to close the gap at the front. Canard won both motos, but two second place finishes from Pourcel only allowed the lead to be cut by six points. If Pala sees the same results, Pourcel will walk away with the Championship by one point. Canard needs to win both Motos at Pala, and he needs someone to stop Canard from finishing second.
