The conditions were perfect and the event had a record number of entries for its 25th Anniversary Motocross event scheduled on Sunday, October 18, 2009 at Weymouth Beach. This event attracts top riders from all over England on machines ranging from 125cc to 500cc and ages from 15 up. The site boasts, “The famous beach course is approximately one mile long and is designed to test the riders to the limits, reaching speeds of 70 mph, while competitively negotiating 'Bomb Holes', Dare Devil Jumps, Sharp Chicanes and a high speed straight.”
300 riders waited yesterday to begin the race after already completing a practice lap while 10,000 visitors waited on the sidelines to watch the scheduled start.

At one-o’clock, one hour after the scheduled start time, it was announced that the event was being cancelled. The medical cover and ambulance, expected to arrive at 11:45, never showed up. Without legally approved medical staff, the event could not be held.
The same medical service company which has covered the event for the last few years failed to show. Director James Rice said: “I thought it was next week. It was obviously my fault and I am very sorry.”
Chairman of Purbeck Motocross Club Alf Stearn said: “It’s totally devastating.” The money raised normally goes to Weymouth and Portland Lions causes and they had expected this to be the largest check ever from this event.
The organizers publically apologized to the sponsors, participants and thousands of spectators whom were affected by the failed event.
