Pink frilly bras, bras adorned with layers of bows, even bras with pink feathered wings. No, this wasn’t a lingerie show. Under some of these bras were hairy chests and tattoos that belonged to dirt bike riders participating in the 3rd Annual Ride for the Cure held in Anza, Calif., on October 3rd.
Driving up to the Rynoland, a motocross practice and testing facility, guests and riders were first greeted with pink signs that read, “Save the ta-ta’s”. The vendor tents, which normally showcase riding gear, parts and accessories, were now mixed in amongst bright pink tents filled with bras, pink clothing and cupcakes.
During the morning, participants had the option to “buy” a decorated bra from the Ride for the Cure booth for a $25 donation. They were instructed to wear them over their gear, although some riders took their shirts off and wore them as properly as a man can wear a bra. At noon, the 15-minute parade began, and the participants rode the track dressed in their frilly lingerie.
Men and women of all ages participated in this fundraising event, proudly riding with the lace and bows blowing in the hot California sun. Picture in your mind a dirt bike and its rider flying over jumps with feathered boas and lace trailing behind them. It was an odd image not soon forgotten. The riders were judged on showmanship and riding style, and winners were determined by the volume of cheering from the crowd.
Proceeds from the event benefited Michelle’s Place, an area Breast Cancer Resource Center. If you can make it next year, this is a “can’t miss” event, and all for a great cause.
