Each year the American Motorcyclist Association presents the Horizon Award to a young racer who is poised to enter the world of professional motorcycle racing. This year the 2011 AMA Roadrace Horizon Award went to Jake Lewis, a 15-year-old roadracer from Kentucky.
"This has been my goal all year -- to get the AMA Roadrace Horizon Award," said Lewis, who earned the award in part by winning the AMA Racing No. 1 plate in the Open SS Expert class. "I'm really excited. I couldn't have done it without Earl Hayden's help. He's sponsored me all these years."
Lewis joins an elite group as he accepts the Horizon Award. Past winners include multiple AMA Road Racing champion, World Superbike Champion, and current MotoGP rider Ben Spies. As well as AMA fan favorites like Jason DiSalvo and Blake Young.
And now that Lewis has achieved the Horizon Award, the young Kentuckian is ready to make his professional AMA debut. Lewis will be heading down to Daytona for the start of the 2012 American racing season.
