For the time being, Tommy Hayden is without a ride for the 2012 AMA Superbike season. The Yoshimura Suzuki team made several cutbacks after the 2011 season and decided to bring the team down to one rider.
Tommy Hayden was one of the best riders during the 2011 season. In fact, many people boiled the 2011 season down to a three race championship between Hayden, his teammate Blake Young, and 2011 champion Josh Hayes.
Hayden finished on the podium at every race but three during the 2011 season and took three race wins. Hayden was a solid contender for the championship throughout the season, but two mechanical errors unfortunately took the Suzuki rider out of contention for the championship.
"I mean, it's just the way it is," Hayden, 33, told Cycle News. "It's really a bummer, but I don't know what to do about it. It's just the way the sport is right now. You either have money or bring money. I'm not sure if I'd won the championship this year I'd be in any different position."
The Yoshimura Suzuki team will continue supporting Blake Young, who lost the AMA Superbike championship by just five points.
Hayden is currently talking to a few teams, including his brother's Michael Jordan Motorsports team, to find a ride for the 2012 season. But for the moment, nothing is certain.
The 2012 season is still a long way away, so hopefully someone picks up Hayden. If not, the AMA Superbike season will lose a little bit of excitement.
