Rispoli Ends Championship Season With Victory in New Jersey

Rispoli_NJMPJames Rispoli wrapped up the 2011 AMA Supersport championship yesterday with a podium finish in the first race at New Jersey Motorsports Park. But "the Rocket" didn't take it easy in race two. Rispoli beat out Garret Gerloff and Hayden Gillim during the second Supersport race at NJMP to put the finishing touches on his championship season.

Gerloff, who won in his AMA debut yesterday, gave Rispoli a great battle around the New Jersey track. The top two riders swapped spots a few times as Hayden Gillim trailed behind in a close third.

Gerloff and Gillim could have made a move on Rispoli in the closing laps, but a red flag was flown shortening the race to 19 laps. Gerloff never got the chance to make his move, but the WERA racer did get to show that he has what it takes to race on a professional level.

"I was a little disappointed at the end," Gerloff said. "But I've got to hand it to James. He rode a great race."

Rispoli is the AMA East division champion as well as the overall AMA Supersort champion. Rispoli scored 2 wins and 6 podiums in points races this season. In East coast division races, Rispoli only missed the podium once.
