Chris Fillmore took the victory during today's XR1200 race at New Jersey Motorsports Park, securing the 2011 XR1200 championship. Fillmore beat out Michael Beck and Kyle Wyman to take his fifth win of the season.
Fillmore entered into the New Jersey Motorsports weekend with 12 points ahead of Steve Rapp, who secured the pole position on Saturday. But Rapp didn't start from the front of the grid. Rapp had mechanical issues before the race and had to start from the back of the pack.
"It made me relax a little," Fillmore said. "But at the same time it made me more nervous. I didn't know what the issue was so I didn't know if he had some secret strategy."
With Rapp at the back, Fillmore battled at the front with Wyman, Beck, and Tyler O'Hara. The three riders circled the New Jersey Motorsports Park track with little space between them until Fillmore took victory by .13 seconds.
Fillmore took five wins this season and three additional podiums.
