At the end of the day today, Josh Hayes or Blake Young will be crowned the 2011 AMA Superbike champion. Hayes currently has 11 point on his competitor, but a determined Young isn't about to let the championship slip away.
Young entered the weekend at New Jersey Motorsports Park with a five point lead over Hayes. Hayes cut the gap down to four after taking the pole position, and took the lead in the series after claiming the race win on Saturday.
Hayes is the only Superbike rider to ever win in New Jersey, and he could keep that streak alive with another win this afternoon.
"The pressure is on Blake," Hayes said. "I'm going to come out there tomorrow and try to do the same thing I did today. I want to get out in front and find some clean track."
Young hasn't been on his game this weekend. The 2011 Superbike contender scored a rare second row start and for just the second time this season, he finished off of the podium.
Young is now in a must win situation, which the Suzuki rider is more than capable of doing.
The AMA Superbike Champion will be deided today at 3:30.
The AMA Supersport series and the Daytona Sportbike series both wrapped up yesterday. James Rispoli and Danny Elick will be taking a few victory laps today during the second Supersport and DSB races.
