Florian Alt ended the 2011 Red Bull Rookies Cup with a fantastic victory over Phillip Oetll and Lorenzo Baldassarri. Third place was all that Baldassarri needed, however, to wrap up the championship.
Arthur Sissis was the only rider who could have taken the cup from Baldassarri at the final race, but Sissis couldn't keep pace with the front group. The 16-year-old Australian lost steam toward the end of the race and finished fourth.
"It was a great race," said Baldassarri. "Such a tough fight with Arthur, Philipp and Flo' we were braking so hard and so late and pushing hard, on the limit, through every corner, the hardest race of the year. Then on the last lap I looked back and I could see that Arthur wasn't close, I knew I just had to finish 3rd to take the Cup."
In the 2011 Red Bull Rookies Cup, 8 different riders took victory at 14 races. Baldassarri claimed victory at two races, and claimed another six podiums. But even more impressive, Baldassarri scored points at every race this year.
