Oh how the tides have turned. Josh Hayes entered the final weekend of the 2011 AMA Superbike season at New Jersey Motorsports Park down five points to title contender Blake Young. But after today's performance, Hayes now has an 11 point lead heading into the final race.
Hayes took the pole position, led the most laps, and took the race victory today. The 2010 defending champion is now in a good position for tomorrow's race.
"We're going to come out tomorrow and try to do what we did today," Hayes said. "I want to get out in front and find some clean track. Up front is where I feel the safest."
Michael Jordan Motorsports' Ben Bostrom did his best to take the win from Hayes, but the #23 Suzuki just couldn't find its way passed Hayes' Yamaha. Bostrom took second today, his second podium finish this season.
"It's been too long," Bostrom said. "I wish this was the first race of the season. The bike has been running really well these last few races."
Tommy Hayden took the final spot on the podium, while his teammate, Young, finished off the podium for just the second time this season. Young took fifth place today, putting himself in a must win situation for tomorrow's Superbike race.
