Tommy Aquino nabbed his first pole of the 2011 Daytona Sportbike season at the last event of the year. Aquino beat out Cameron Beaubier, Danny Eslick, and Josh Herrin to grab the first spot on the grid.
"It's the last weekend," Aquino said. "We wanted to go out with a bang and show everyone what we can do."
Aquino set a 1:24.526 lap around New Jersey Motorsports Park, beating out Beaubier by .16 seconds. Josh Herrin was the third fastest rider for the day, while Championship leader Danny Eslick cruised into fourth, .5 seconds behind Beaubier.
"We're in a pretty good position," Eslick said. "There was no real reason to throw this thing down the road this morning."
Eslick's laptime for Q1 will put him in the third spot on the grid in front of Herrin.
