Danny Eslick doesn't have to be the fastest rider this weekend at the AMA Pro Racing Championships in New Jersey, he just has to finish. But the Suzuki rider just can't help himself from pulling back the throttle. Eslick took the provisional pole position today ahead of Cameron Beaubier and Taylor Knapp.
Eslick is currently 45 points ahead of Josh Herrin in the overall standings. If the Suzuki rider can just keep his bike in the points this weekend he'll have the Daytona Sportbike championship in the bag. But that's not Eslick's style.
"Going slow just isn't my style," Eslick said. "We're here to win races. We're here to win championships, too of course. But I'm going out there to try to win a race."
Eslick finished .24 seconds ahead of Beaubier and .3 seconds ahead of Knapp. Herrin, the closest rider to Eslick in the standings, was the fourth quickest rider today, .33 seconds off of the pace.
