Things are not looking good for Max Biaggi. With just four rounds left in the 2011 World Superbike season, the 2010 champion trails by 62 points behind Carlos Checa. Biaggi still has plenty of time to reel Checa back in, but he'll have to start his campaign for the championship this weekend in Germany.
Biaggi was riding a wave of momentum heading into the last round at Silverstone, but the Aprilia rider couldn't match the victories he took at Aragon and BRNO. Biaggi took an 11th and a fourth place finish at Silverstone, while Checa notched two more victories.
But after a long holiday break, Biaggi is ready to get back on the track and end the season strong.
"The holidays are over. We are finally getting back on the track," said Max Biaggi. "Despite the break, I still have the half-disappointing Silverstone weekend in my mind. In Germany I want to make up for that.
"In spite of the standings, which don't look very promising, we must always aim for the best possible result.. I like the circuit and my RSV4 should like it as well. Now we'll just wait to take the track and evaluate the initial times to begin setting up properly for an important weekend."
Biaggi took fourth and fifth at Nurburgring last year, but the Aprilia rider had a big lead at the top at this point in 2010. Now Biaggi enters the German round in a different position, and will be more motivated than ever to find the podium.
