Tyler O'Hara took his first XR1200 race victory today during an historic Harley race at the brickyard. It's been more than a hundred years since a Harley has raced at the Brickyard, and O'Hara, Jason DiSalvo, Steve Rapp and Chris Fillmore put on a show for the international crowd.
Fillmore and Jeremy McWilliams were fighting at the front with O'Hara, but the season leader and the UK XR1200 champ both went down before the final stretch. With O'Hara and and McWilliams out, Jason DiSalvo and Steve Rapp picked up the pace and nearly stole the victory from O'Hara.
Rapp lead down the final stretch, but O'Hara was able to draft by Rapp and took the lead by .04 seconds. DiSalvo was just inches behind, taking the final spot on the podium .05 seconds behind Rapp.
Fillmore still retains the lead, but with his DNF today, he only holds 6 points above Rapp. The XR1200 series will have their second race of the weekend tomorrow.
