Eslick Takes Win, Extends Points Lead

Eslick_Does_a_Victory_LapThe Daytona Sportbike championship is now Danny Eslick's to lose. Eslick scored the win today at Laguna Seca and now has a substantial lead over Josh Herrin and Jason DiSalvo in the DSB standings.

Herrin, who entered the weekend just 15 points shy of Eslick, had to retire from the race today with a mechanical issue. Herrin's DNF will drop him back to 40 points behind Eslick, and with just two races remaining in the season, that gap could be insurmountable.

"This was awesome," Eslick said. "Race wins definitely help going to the championship, but in the end it's consistency. Being there is the biggest thing. A race win, I mean, there's not much else we can do. I would have liked to have gotten the pole point, or the most laps lead point, but a win at Laguna Seca, it's great."

Eslick won an abbreviated race at the Mazda Raceway today. After two red flags, the first on the opening lap that involved Jake Holden, and the second on lap 11 which caused a race stoppage, Eslick was declared the winner ahead of Cameron Beaubier by .2 seconds.

DiSalvo, who lead at the beginning of the race, was in third when the race was called.

"I don't think I slowed down at all, these guys just really picked up the pace behind me," DiSalvo said. "But I'm happy. It's been a little while since we've been on the box. I'm excited going into the last round. I want to give the Latus crew one more win before the season's over."
