With just three races left in the AMA Superbike season, Josh Hayes needs to take just about every point he can get his hands on. Hayes claimed the pole position today at Laguna Seca, and inched one point closer to Blake Young at the top of the standings.
The single point should feel good for Hayes, but the fact that he laid down a 1'24.480 lap time should feel any better. Hayes was .3 seconds ahead of the Hayden brothers, and .5 seconds ahead of Blake Young.
The AMA Superbike riders will be using the MotoGP grid rules during tomorrow's race, which means that Blake Young, who finished fourth, will be starting from the second row. Young will be joined on row two by Martin Cardenas and Ben Bostrom.
Larry Pegram will head the third row alongside Jake Holden and Geoff May.
