Benny Solis will be starting from the pole position this afternoon when the AMA Supersport riders line up for their race at Laguna Seca. Solis brought his Honda to the top of the timesheets, beating out Corey Alexander and Tomas Puerta for the pole position.
"Today was a lot better than yesterday," Solis said. "I got a good time yesterday, but I was having a lot of issues. We tried something new today and we were able to find a few more tenths. I'm glad to be up on the front row."
Solis set a 1'30.392 time around the Laguna Seca track to take the pole position, finishing .3 seconds ahead of second place rider Corey Alexander.
"Our bike has been good all weekend," Alexander said. "We just haven't been able to get clean laps."
Tomas Puerta, who took the pole position in 2010, will be the final rider on the front row during the Supersport race. The Supersport series, which typically uses a four man grid formation, will be using the MotoGP setup of three riders per row during the afternoon race.
David Gaviria, Elena Myers, and Dustin Dominguez will make up the second row.
The AMA Supersport riders had their final qualifying session on a cold and foggy morning at Laguna Seca. The race, which is scheduled for 3:40 this afternoon, should have much better conditions for the Supersport riders.
