Josh Hayes held onto the top spot during the first free practice session for the AMA Superbike riders at Laguna Seca. Hayes bested season leader Blake Young, who was the only rider to challenge the pace during FP1.
Hayes set a 1'25.362 laptime during the afternoon session, beating out Young by .3 seconds. Tommy Hayden took third for the day and was the final rider to finish with a second of Hayes' pace.
Martin Cardenas has a solid day at Laguna, taking the fourth place spot during the free practice session ahead of Roger Hayden and Larry Pegram.
The AMA Superbike riders will hit the track tomorrow morning for their first qualifying session of the weekend.
