Live Results From Mid-Ohio: Daytona Sportbike Race 1

Herrin_turn_1The Daytona Sportbike riders are just about to hit the track for their first race of the weekend. Josh Herrin took the pole position this morning, but the top five riders were just off of his pace.

The DSB riders will hit the track at 1:00.

Daytona Sportbike Grid at Mid-Ohio

Herrin - DiSalvo - Eslick - Holden
Aquino - Beaubier - West - Westby
Knapp - Allison - Turner - Jacobsen

The Daytona Sportbike riders are on the track. They'll be taking off on their warm-up lap shortly. 

The Daytona Sportbike riders will have a 21 lap race today. The riders are on the grid. 

And they're off!

Jason DiSalvo takes the lead off of the line. DiSalvo is followed by polesitter Josh Herrin. 

DiSalvo, Herrin, and Eslick cross the line with barely a bike length between them. 

We've got five bikes all fighting for first place. 

DiSalvo - Herrin - Eslick - Aquino - Beaubier

Mellisa Paris heads to the pits. Looks like she had a mechanical error. 

DiSalvo continues the lead around the track. But we have five riders at the front riding in a single file line. 

16 laps to go. Eslick gets round Disalvo, Eslick - DiSalvo - Herrin  

Westby puts in the quickest lap of the day, a 1'30091, to move into the 6th place position behind West. 

Paris has returned to the race after fixing a tire issue. Jake Holden has retired to the pits with a mechanical issue. 

Eslick holds the lead ahead of DiSalvo, Herrin, and Aquino. Beaubier drops a little bit off of the front pack. 

DiSalvo grabs the lead, but Eslick takes it back on the next turn. 

Westby has made his way up to the front pack. 

10 laps to go. Eslick - DiSalvo - Herrin - Westby - Aquino - Beaubier

We have 6 bikes running nose to tail. No change in the order over the last few laps, but with 8 laps remaining, we should start seeing some action. 

Herrin jumps up ahead of DiSalvo. 

7 laps to go. Eslick - Herrin - DiSalvo - Westby - Aquino - Beaubier

Westby moves into third ahead of DiSalvo. Eslick crosses the line .2 seconds ahead of Herrin. 

5 laps to go. 

Westby - Eslick - Herrin - DiSalvo

Westby has a few podium finishes this year, but has never taken a race win. 

Eslick takes the lead back with 3 laps to go. 

The white flag is flying. 

Westby, Eslick, Herrin, DiSalvo. Any rider could take this victory.

We're running three wide. Nose to tail. Westby runs wide, Eslick takes the lead, Westby retakes the lead and Herrin moves ahead of Westby. 

Heading into the fianl stretch, Westby, Herrin, Eslick, DiSalvo. 

Westby takes his first win of the 2011 Daytona Sportbike season.
