Josh Hayes claimed the provisional pole position today at Mid-Ohio during the first qualifying session for the AMA Superbike riders. Hayes will be joined by Blake Young, Roger Hayden, and Tommy Hayden on the provisional front row.
Hayes has captured all five pole positions so far this season, and with his 1'25.639 lap time, he could be on his way to his sixth.
"It would be nice to get them all," Hayes said. "Everyone wants to be fastest in qualifying, but that's definitely not our only goal."
Hayes will be looking for a race win when he hits the track tomorrow, and if history is any indication of tomorrow's results, Hayes will be tough to beat.
Hayes has taken 7 wins at Mid-Ohio throughout his AMA career.
"First time I came here was in 1999 for Formula Xtreme," Hayes said. "This has always been a good track for me. It's a fun race track. It has good variety. Some really fast stuff, some slow stuff, a nice straightaway. I always enjoy racing here."
Hayes will have to beat Blake Young, who is currently second in the series. Young finished less than a tenth of a second behind Hayes during the first qualifying session.
Roger and Tommy Hayden also put in some quick lap times, finishing within a half second of Hayes.
A pair of BMWs crossed the line next. Steve Rapp took the fifth place spot ahead of Larry Pegram.
